Free-scoring Newcastle heaped more misery on relegation-bound Leicester as the Magpies' Champions League pursuit gathered further momentum.
The three points for Eddie Howe's side lifted them above Manchester City into fifth place in the Premier League and level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea, despite still having a game in hand.
Leicester, meanwhile, became the first side in the top four tiers of English football to lose eight home league games in a row without finding the net, as they sit 15 points from safety with seven games remaining.
The scoring started inside the opening two minutes, with Jacob Murphy scoring the first of two tap-ins after some great work down the left wing by Tino Livramento.
Murphy's second came less than 10 minutes later when Fabian Schar almost scored the goal of the season, but his audacious effort from inside his own half struck the crossbar - with the Newcastle winger reacting fastest to finish the rebound.
Twenty-four minutes then passed before Howe's men extended their lead further as Joelinton easily cut inside Wout Faes and forced a diving save out of Mads Hermansen, but former Foxes winger Harvey Barnes reacted first to make it 3-0 as the boos rang out around King Power Stadium.
The Foxes, who passed the 12-hour mark without scoring a goal, came within inches of finding the back of the net but Patson Daka's strike hit the inside of both posts before rolling into the hands of Nick Pope.
With the points in the bag for the Magpies following a rampant first period, Howe had the luxury of taking off key players Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes, Murphy and Alexander Isak - with the visit of Ruben Amorim's Manchester United side on Sunday very much on the mind.
As the match slowed in tempo, Ruud van Nistelrooy turned to his bench and brought on 15-year-old forward Jeremy Monga - making him the second youngest player, behind Arsenal's Ethan Nwaneri, to play in the Premier League.
Leicester will look to avoid a 10th loss on the spin on Saturday when they take on Brighton at Amex Stadium.
The King Power Stadium plays host to an exciting Premier League encounter on Friday evening.
Leicester City enter the clash after facing Southampton on the last matchday and failing to further capitalize the third position. The Foxes face Manchester United, Chelsea (twice) & finally Tottenham on the last match week. A win will prove to be huge.
Newcastle United, on the other hand, will be looking to secure top-flight survival as they sit nine points clear of 18th placed relegation-bound Fulham. They will hope to bounce back from a disappointing 2-0 loss to Arsenal.
Here are the predicted line-ups for both the teams:
Leicester City
Newcastle United
Steve Bruce is likely is stick to his 5-3-2 formation, which has been the club’s go-to formation for the most part of the season.
Fabian Schar will be missing the game due to his final minute red card against Arsenal in the 2-0 loss.
Ryan Fraser, Isaac Hayden, Jamaal Lascelles & Karl Darlow are the players who make the absentee list for the Magpies.
Newcastle were on a decent run of form before their defeat at the hands of the Gunners and this might just prompt Steve Bruce to stick to his regular eleven without making too many changes.
Newcastle XI: Dubravka; Fernandez, Clark, Dummett; Ritchie, Shelvey, Longstaff, Almiron, Murphy; Joelinton, Saint-Maximin
Prediction
Both clubs enter the clash with underwhelming results that will likely have great repercussions on the final table standings.
Leicester have won eight of their last ten Premier League matches against Newcastle.
The Foxes will have comparatively more incentive for a victory than the Magpies, as they look for a top-four finish. Vardy & Iheanacho’s form in front of goal will be hard for Newcastle to contain but the midfield battle is likely the game-changer for both teams.
Throughout the season, Leicester have been consistently remarkable in midfield and that is where the game will be won.
Leicester City 2-0 Newcastle United
Brendan Rodgers is expected to start with a familiar 3-4-1-2 or 3-5-2 setup.
James Justin, Harvey Barnes & Wes Morgan are the only absentees, as they sit out with long-term injuries.
Ricardo Pereira is expected to return to the starting eleven after Rodgers said he was ‘pretty sure’ of the Portuguese’s inclusion in his pre-match conference.
Ayoze Perez might see some starting time behind Kelechi Iheanacho and Jamie Vardy, but James Maddison’s inclusion in the starting line-up should definitely not be excluded altogether.
Jonny Evans is bound to take back his position as the defensive general alongside Wesley Fofana and Caglar Soyuncu.
Leicester City XI: Schmeichel; Fofana, Evans, Soyuncu; Pereira, Ndidi, Tielemans, Castagne; Perez; Vardy, Iheanacho.
Newcastle were too kind and going easy in the 2nd half, esp. with Isak was still unfit. Last season they demolished Sheffield United 8-0 at their ground, but Leicester were lucky The Toon Army were not in the right mood to do that again
I call on all Arabs, Muslims, and every person with a conscience to boycott beIN Sports and the Premier League in response to Britain’s shameful role in supporting the Zionist occupation's crimes against innocent children, women, and civilians in Gaza and occupied Palestine.
The winger was in the right place at the right time less than two minutes into the game when he got on the end of Tino Livramento’s dangerous cross to fire home from close range.
Murphy doubled his tally when he was first to the pick up Fabian Schar’s audatious effort which hit the crossbar from the halfway line. Harvey Barnes scored against Leicester, his former club, but they are sure to remember Murphy’s contribution to the game.
The win sees Newcastle move up to fifth in the Premier League and boost their chances of qualifying for the Champions League at the end of the season. The Magpies already have Europa Conference League football confirmed for the 2025/26 campaign, but fans will be hoping for much more after their historic Carabao Cup win.
It's time to wield the weapon of boycott once again — just as we successfully did with Coca-Cola and products of the occupying entity.
Our money should not be used to fund the killing of our people, nor should we enjoy matches broadcast by networks that glorify criminals and ignore the blood of the oppressed.
Support justice. Stand with the innocent. Boycott those who fund murder.
Boycott is not just a choice — it’s a moral dutty
Can't Score Carnt defend Carnt save a goal
Carnt play .Carnt Manage ..one thing City can do make new records .....8 home games
HOME. GAMES Without scoring a single goal ...I'm a City life fan born and bred ..but this is so so woeful ..no heart no playing for the shirt ..
Good clear out at end of season let all these go cheap from Back to Front......sorry for 1 player Captain Jamie Vardy
The more I see the goal scored in 2 minutes the worse it gets. The Newcastle player passed the ball along the defence line and 5 City players stood and watched it. The goalie stuck an arm out, as if to feign an attempt at stopping it, and then up pops the Newcastle fella to stick it in the goal.
Champions League football is the goal for Newcastle, which was agreed in an internal meeting between the players after their Wembley triumph.
Murphy bagged an assist at Wembley for Alexander Isak’s goal, continuing their fantastic partnership this season.
In his post-match interview with Sky Sports (h/t BBC Sport), Murphy was asked about the buzz at Newcastle following the cup win and how that can help the team going forwa
rd.
As for their 2nd goal, just watch Leicester's "defence" stood around like chocolate bobbies.
